YEAR 1 WORK
A summary of first year studies, which focused on correct drawing techniques and thinking creatively about conceptual designs.
THERMAL BATHS REDRAW
Drawing an existing building by hand and digitally, focusing on measurement accuracy and portraying the atmosphere inside by using light, shadow and material.
PAINTERS STUDIO
Located in Broughty Ferry, Dundee, the site was originally a fishing and whaling village and has a historic charm and strong connections to the water. Away from the city, it provides an escape, a quiet atmosphere to relax and concentrate on artistic creations.
Keeping in mind the needs of the artist, north light enters the studio from a four-sided window, which is high enough to maintain privacy but allows maximum light to enter. The studio space is double-height, so the artist does not feel enclosed, it also allows for better ventilation because of the products they may use. The living space is divided by a half wall from the studio, giving a sense of separation and allows the art to be viewed from above. The area is great for a peaceful live/work studio being near water, giving the artist a calm environment with great views for inspiration nearby, and an incredible opportunity for light.
DRY DOCK
An innovative timber structure which explores the boundary between land and water, and provides shelter. Through the use of a cantilever, it explores technology and structural elements.
SERIAL VISION
Exploring the city of Dundee, drawing exercises were carried out to practise sketching abilities and a final, more detailed piece was produced from these.
CAFE STUDIO
In the city of Perth, this studio is for the public to express themselves artistically. It displays the artwork drawn inside on the exterior of the building, showing the daily narrative of the people. The cafe below acts to draw people inside what is quite a radical and unique idea in the area.
MOVEMENT
Testing material, scale and shelter by tracking a movement and producing an object from this which can enclose the public.
